Dr. Joseph Morgan, Pastor

PASTOR JOSEPH MORGAN, D. MIN.

Joseph Morgan, D. Min (Minister, Pastor, Teacher, Author) was born to James Andrew Morgan and Edith Morgan in Wilson, Arkansas.  He was baptized into Christ at age ten at the Macedonia M. B. Church in Driver, Arkansas; thence to Jerusalem M. B. Church and received into fellowship under the Pastorate of the Second Shepherd, the late Rev L. Q. Laws.

Moving to St. Louis, Missouri, March 1946, he attended night school at Washington Technical High School, until enlistment in the US Navy in June 1948.  During his nine years of Naval Service, he achieved his high school equivalency.  Dr. Morgan received an Honorable Discharge, with ribbons and commendations, from the U.S. Navy, June 13,1957.

Dr. Morgan married Dr. Evelyn Hardy Morgan on June 27, 1954.  She faithfully served the church as Minister of Music under the leadership of three pastors: Rev. L. Q. Laws, Rev. James Andrew Morgan and Dr. Joseph Morgan until her death in November 24, 1992.  They were lovingly known as the "pair-of-docs."  They are the proud parents of one child, Cheryl Dianna Morgan Young.

Pastor Morgan entered the gospel Ministry by divine appointment October 1959 and received license to preach the gospel. Following acceptance of the Divine call into the Gospel Ministry, studies in Christian Education and Christian Theology began at the American Baptist College Extension, East St. Louis, Ill; graduated from Western Baptist Bible College, 1964-Certificate of Christian Theology; graduate St. Louis Christian College-1971, Bachelor of Arts-Christian Education; Covenant Theological Seminary-Masters of Religious Education; Luther Rice Seminary- May 1981 with a Doctorate of Ministry in Practical Theology.

When the third shepherd of Jerusalem, Rev James Andrew Morgan, passed away in December 1964,       Bro. Joseph Morgan, his son, was chosen as his successor on March 8, 1965. All of Dr Morgan’s training, education and life experiences have been in preparation for the work of his highest attainment in the Kingdom of Christ serving the Pastorate of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

Recently Dr. Morgan began writing for the National Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Publishing Board as a lesson plans writer for Nurture for Baptist Churches training guides.  Additionally, he published his first writing,

The Black Baptist Church:

Its Historical and Theological Perspective

which is available on the internet and in soft cover print.  He has participated in the Spring Leadership Training Schools of Antioch District using his recently published work at the text for the course.  Early in 2006, Dr. Morgan was honored by Antioch District for 50 Years of Christian Service.  He as worked tirelessly and still serves as God allows him to serve as Pastor.

… from Macedonia, to the present …

HE LIVES, HE LIVES, CHRIST JESUS LIVES TODAY!

...And, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”
                                                                - Joshua 24:15

… For the future …I ’m pressing on, new heights I’m gaining, every day.

“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling
of God in Christ Jesus”

                                                                 - Philippians 3:14

 YOURS, BECAUSE OF CHRIST

“Blessed is the man, who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord,
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
