                       Celebrating our Mothers
                     by Nature and by Nurture
               quoted by Moderator Duane Sleet

The Mothers ministry is dedicated to the Lord, the church and the pastor.  They minister on 1st Sundays and when they visit with the sick.  They also counsel young mothers and young women who are restored to the congregation.  There are many other duties they perform.  We love our Mothers!

The National Baptist Congress of Christian Education will convene in our fair city, St. Louis, MO, June 18-22, 2007 at the America's Center.  We are still in need of drivers for the hospitality service.  Courtesy Driver information available for downloading.

Mother's Day weekend of events was absolutely wonderful.  The Mothers are charming and they are certainly full of energy and the fire of the Holy Spirit.  They The weekend began with Saturday's prayer breakfast, actually sponsored by the Women of Grace Ministries.  They featured our Mothers, although the primary purpose of the prayer breakfast is to assist in raising scholarship funds for our graduating seniors and young people away at college.  The weekend culminated with our services during the Morning Worship hour.  The music, speakers, praise and devotion was excellent.  The service culminated in the sermon presented by our District Moderator, Dr. Duane M. Sleet.  He presented the word to us: "Who is Our Mother?  Who is Our Brother and Sister? , taken from Matthew  12:46-49.  We all remember this message for a long time to come.  He is truly a dynamic speaker who loves the Lord and you should be sure to be present to witness what God has given him.  He ended by leading the choir and congregation in song "The Name of Jesus."  Our Moderator can preach and sing.  He's welcomed anytime to sing with Jerusalem's Mass Choir.  We enjoyed him.

By the way, if you didn't get the opportunity to adopt a Mother on Sunday or were unable to attend the services for Mother's Day, it's not too late.  They will accept your offering all year long.

Just so you know who on our Mother's Board, here are their names, from back row starting left: Mother Viola Patrick, Mother Ethel Childress, Mother Mary Hubbard, Mother Elizabeth Bonner, Mother Mary Simmons, Mother Essie Holly, Mother Robbie Phillips.  The front row, seated from left to right: Mother Alice White, Mother Nellie Knox, Pastor Joseph Morgan, Mother Rosie Faulkner.  Not pictured is: Mother Mamie Benton and Mother Earma Holiday.  Many of the mothers are busy caring for the sick in Jerusalem, raising children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, serving with the Deaconess Ministry, singing in the choir, leading in praise and worship periods, working with the Prayer Ministry and much, much more.  These ladies are busy.  Ask any of them just how much they do and they'll tell you.  They are full of life, energy and they are a joy to be around.  Get to know our Mothers and you will find 400 years of wisdom present together on one Mother's Board.  They love us and we truly love them.
